From connective actions in social movements to offline collective actions: an individual level perspective

Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the role connective action characterised by interconnection and personal communication on social media (SM) for participating in collective physical world movements. Design/methodology/approach A research model developed integrating different modes into identity (SIMCA) pathways offline (CA) from an individual perspective. Following a survey design approach, data collected 194 respondents background Egypt's movements are examined using partial least squares (PLS) path modelling mediation analyses. Findings authors' main results reveal that interactive socialisation (IS) SM provides important momentum user internalise (consume) externalise (share) content online learning In terms translating these activities CA, authors find support two independent causal chains: An “instrumental” chain building externalisation (CE) efficacy considerations “obligatory” based internalisation (CI) identity. Originality/value highlight individual-level origins mobilisation movements, which not only grounded social-psychology, but also develop out interrelated actions supporting learning.
